Ryan Golterman and I had a great time birding near the western L. Erie shore yesterday.  At times we were more frustrated than satiated, due to the presence of peregrine falcons at the shorebird hotspots.  But by the end of the day we were all smiles even though we were rather tired, bleary eyed, and hot during mid-day.  Lots of good birds found, here's the highlights from west to east....Crane Creek Estuary (at the end of the new trail): peregrine falcon chasing shorebirds, Baird's sandpiper, 3 buff-breasted sandpipers, purple martins.  At the Magee parking lot we saw a yellow-billed cuckoo.  At Turtle Creek at Duff-Washa Rd. were common shorebirds and a bald eagle.  We birded Pipe Creek WA in the morning and again in the afternoon, seen there: 2 Am. wigeon, numerous blue-winged teal, 6 snowy egrets, juv. little blue heron, black-crowned night-heron, Cooper's hawk, peregrine falcon terrorizing the shorebirds, Am. golden-plover, buff-breasted
sandpiper, short-billed dowitchers, 5 red-necked phalaropes, Forster's tern, belted kingfisher, warbling vireo, black-and-white warbler, and Baltimore oriole.  Our last stop was at the old Cedar Point chaussee, and it was very birdy there: mute swans, wood ducks, blue-winged teal, n. shovelers, hooded merganser, 15 pied-billed grebes, great egrets, 2 snowy egrets, bald eagle, peregrine falcon chasing shorebirds (again!), 2 red knots, 10 stilt sandpipers, 2 buff-breasted sandpipers, short-billed dowitchers, 4 red-necked phalaropes, 50 Caspian terns, 30 Forster's terns, and a Baltimore oriole.  So during the day we saw 6 buff-breasted sandpipers at 3 places, and 9 red-necked phalaropes at 2 spots...awesome!!  Craig Holt, Lowellville
