I'd like to know what other birders are planning to know what to do with
accumulated periodicals. All of us will be moving along, some sooner
than others. I for example have 34 years of American Birds, 13 years of
Florida Field Naturalist, 25 years of Birding, and Birders' Journal for
15 or so years.
These are all valuable journals, and I'd hate to see them trashed
after I no longer use them. I also have 200+ books, but they are more
easily sold eventually. I am not interested in
making money on these but only making sure they end up in the hands of
owners who value them. I can also mail them to those who pay for postage
(not so cheap, I warn you), but frugal buyers can pick complete sets of
them up at my place in Columbus for next to nothing if you purchase
complete runs. Ask for details if you want. Call ahead if you're coming,
262-3595. Don't ask me to offer just a few issues just to fill out your
collection, though.
I believe it is important for birders who have caches of
periodicals to pass them along to the next generation; believe me, the
local library is unlikely going to welcome such a donation.
Eventually I plan to divest myself of books as well, from a collection
of ~500 volumes. This I'll think over, and I'll offer only a list of
prices--bargains--to those interested as requested.
