I enjoyed a v cool woodcock performance tonight. Saw and heard at least 4 birds. Twice I was able to see 2 birds doing an aerial display together—not sure I’ve ever seen that before. Once a pair was almost right over my head. Also had one woodcock fly by me less than 10 feet away about 5 feet off the ground. All sorts of vocalizations incl the peent.

Also heard a distant Barred Owl call a few times. Saw & heard a mallard pair then a Wood Duck pair along w/Canada Geese. Other evening singing birds were Red-wingeds, Song Sparrows, mourning doves, cardinal, killdeer. Also heard a frog that sounded more like the one that makes a sound like fingers along a comb than what I think of as spring peepers—afraid I’m terrible with amphibians…

V pleasant way to spend an evening. Wasn’t even that cold.
