For the past week or so the lake in this park has had six hooded mergansers and various numbers of red-breasted mergansers (0-15). This morning there were two new species: a pied-billed grebe and a horned grebe in breeding plumage along with the six hoodies and full number of 15 red-breasted mergansers. From time to time the male hoodies do some short courtships displays. I am also keeping an eye on the tiny bit of mudflats on the eastern end of the lake.
