I decided to chase the Henslow’s and Nelson’s sparrows at Funk Bottoms today but was not successful. I tried from the observation tower side which was probably not the correct side as I spotted some birders who had come in from off of 95 but I’m just not comfortable parking on such a busy road on those small pull outs. I had very few sparrows, just a few song and swamp.

I did find a small group of yellowlegs, mostly Lessers but there were a few Greaters just off of wilderness Rd. Aside from a couple Red-tailed hawks and some distant ducks that I believe were Ring-necked, there wasn’t much around. I did not get Bald Eagles until the drive back to Granville. I had a couple kestrels along the roadside.

I also stopped by Mohican State Park at the gorge overlook mostly for the scenery which was quite lovely with the turning leaves. No birds of note at my brief stop there incl driving by the Evening Grosbeak spot.
