Hi, all --

Took advantage of a gorgeous day off to bird the water spots of Wayne County
(Prairie Lane, Killbuck, The Fish Pond, Shreve Lake, Funk Bottoms/Wildnerness
Road).  Hightlights were:

    --> Snow Goose: single, white-phase individual on Wilderness Road
(still flooded, but makes a good place to park)
              << SU SNYDER NOTES A SINGLE BLUE-PHASE IN THE KILLBUCK MARSH >>

   -->  Rough-legged Hawk:  single, light-phase, ID'd by the ID-less Amishman
who was gracious enough to clue me in; Cemetery Road/226

   --> Lesser Yellowlegs: at the "fish pond" at 226 and Kister; a handful
of Killdeer kept them company (another bird I couldn't ID -- thanks to Su
Snyder for the assist on this!)

For the local folks:

   --The "fish pond" was packed with waterfowl, the usual suspects, nothing
fancy
   --Wright Marsh is inaccessible, as the trail is flooded
   --Shreve Lake is largely frozen; a handful of hoodies there
   --Prairie Lane was a treasure trove, not to be missed
   --You can now drive from 83 to 226 on Messner Road (no longer flooded)
   --Funk: the observation tower access road is still flooded, but the ice
is melting, and it was filling up nicely with ducks

The list (chrono, not taxo)

  --> 15 Waterfowl species:

CANADA GOOSE
MALLARD
NORTHERN SHOVELER
** GADWALL (first of year for me)
AMERICAN COOT
HOODED MERGANSER
BUFFLEHEAD
REDHEAD
RING-NECKED DUCK
LESSER SCAUP
AMERICAN WIGEON (just a few, and no, not a single Eurasian)
NORTHERN PINTAIL
SNOW GOOSE
CANVASBACK
** GREEN-WINGED TEAL (first of the year)

** GREAT BLUE HERON (first of the year)

   -->  Landlubbers:

Killdeer, RW Blackbird, Common Grackle, Robin, Song Sparrow, Cardinal, Belted
Kingfisher, N Harrier, Eu Starling, Am Goldfinch, RBWP, Pine Siskin (local
feeder), Turkey Vulture, Red-tailed Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Rough-legged Hawk,
Lesser Yellowlegs (Thanks again, Su!), Ring-billed Gull, American Crow, Horned Lark

Su Snyder reported a single TREE SWALLOW as well, in the Killbuck Marsh, and
a Common Redpoll at her feeders.

Not a bad day -- beats working ANY day!
Scott, Wooster
