I got a nice Easter surprise this morning with my first of the year Eastern Phoebe on South Bass Island!

One a three mile run on the island, saw over 100 turkey vultures with one group of 61 flying low over the harbor to the northeast. The rest were in small groups or singles on top of telephone poles, roofs, and trees.

Dark-eyed juncos were everywhere as well as large flocks of red-winged blackbirds, common grackles and saw four brown-headed cowbirds.

Elizabeth Heineman reported hooded mergansers in Terwilliger's Pond and Tedi Pertner wood ducks near the new nesting boxes on Middle Bass Island. Lots of red-breasted mergansers on the lake.
