Yesterday and today I have been watching a male yellow bellied sapsucker feed on the ground beneath my feeders. It will go up on the nearby trees and to the suet but it spends most of its time feeding on the ground here. This is the first time I’ve ever seen one do this so I’m curious if it’s something the species commonly does. Please feel free to respond to me privately. Thanks.
