This has been a fantastic fall. October birds are starting to become the
species of abundance as Mrytle Warbler finally is becoming more common than
Blackpoll's at the Navarre Banding Station and Hermit Thrush is surpassing
the Swainson's Thrush. Seems that the Gray-cheek is waning but some really
fat individuals continue to pork out. Generally ~30 grams, a few of these
are topping 50 grams this week. This has been the week of the kinglet as
has been discussed at BSBO's facebook page
http://www.facebook.com/bsbobird. Can't even imagine how many are passing
through Ohio right now. For a better view of the migration and how it
compares to last year and the fall 20 year average check out the stations
totals on BSBO's website
http://www.bsbo.org/passerine/pdf/2010_fall_Navarre.pdf

The weather looks like a real winner for the upcoming weekend. If you can't
make it to the Lake Erie Marsh Region for Saturday Morning's Banding
Demonstration and Migration discoveries (10 - 11:30 AM) or one of the field
trips of OOS's then get out and do some exploring at one of your favorite
birding destinations and see how migration is transpiring there.
