The lack of posting has been a result of the last few weeks being a total nightmare at work with trying to get caught up from the ice storm; I’m a UPS driver.

Gonna try and keep this simple and brief..

Lots of birds were around my property and at my feeders during the extreme cold snap.
Highlights included:

Fox Sparrow (3)
Chipping Sparrow (9)
Purple Finch (4)
Common Grackle
Red-winged Blackbird

Also had flyover from Bald Eagle and Black Vulture.

Several locations along the Ohio River yielded lots of waterfowl and gulls.
(1) Bonaparte’s Gull amongst the hundreds of Ring-billed Gulls and Herring Gulls.

American Black Duck
Bufflehead
Canvasback
Common Goldeneye
Common Loon
Common Merganser
Gadwall
Greater Scaup
Hooded Merganser
Horned Grebe
Lesser Scaup
Long-tailed Ducks (Gallipolis Locks & Dam)
Northern Pintail
Northern Shoveler
Pied-billed Grebe
Red-breasted Merganser
Redhead
Ring-necked Ducks
Ruddy Duck
Wood Duck

I went out this morning for a few hours. Good numbers of Common Grackle and Red-winged Blackbirds.

**(1) Merlin (FOY) perched in a dead snag in the rain along the Ohio River at the Old Lock 27 Fishing Access.

**Proctorville Park had a good amount of water sitting and had a nice variety of waterfowl moving about in the temporary pond. Highlights:
(3) Northern Shoveler-FOY
(2) Northern Pintail
(1) Wilson’s Snipe-FOY

I’ve noticed the declining number of Dark-eyed Junco and that there have been zero White-throated Sparrows in my yard the last few days..
Spring will be here soon!
