Greetings from the edge of the state! My wife and I spent a frustrating hour driving up and down near the Indiana-Ohio state line looking for the Snowy Owl reported yesterday afternoon. We had all but given up when we decide to continue south along the State Line Road on our way back home when all of a sudden, a large white bird flew from the edge of the road out to a fence post about 600 feet west of the state line road. It was the Snowy Owl, of course, and it was still perched there when we left at about 10:30 a.m.

The bird was about 4.25 miles south of its original location at the Paulding-Defiance county line. This is also about 0.5 mile north of Carryall Township Road 188 and the Notestine Road on the Indiana side. We might also note that we saw a nice flock of Sandhills about a mile north of that spot about 400 to 500 feet west of the road and a couple of Tundra Swans about 1/2 mile west of the state line. Apparently these birds prefer the Indiana side!

Hope the owl stays put for those who come to look for it!

Bird long and prosper,
Doug & Micki Dunakin
