I will be THRILLED when eBird has an application in the iPhone/Droid market
--- I think once that happens, their checklist counts will skyrocket.
I have an app (Bird Watcher's Diary) that gets very close to that, but not
easy to submit the sightings you log (not for me, at least).
All in time, I think.
Until then, eBird for desktop is a fantastic way to log and manage your own
lists, if you're a lister like many of us.
Also of note, Ohio is ranked FOURTH in the country in lists submitted ---
only behind the obvious birding giants, CA, TX, and NY (and yes, we totally
OWN Michigan, hehe). Not sure why the success, but I am glad we are using
this wonderful service. As a combined group, we've documented 328 species
for 2011.

Hi Scott and others,
I'll definitely be keeping track of my Franklin County list going into
2012. Like some others have suggested, I am a big fan of county
listing as a fun local alternative to state listing. It can result in
some great local finds and increase your knowledge of how to find
birds in underbirded areas. It also, of course, uses up less gas than
driving all over the state. I'm sure Bill Whan will be posting
sometime in the next week or so summarizing the Franklin County
sightings during 2011. It was a great year.
As we get ready to kick off a new year of birding, I'd highly
recommend getting started with eBird right now if you haven't already.
Any time is a great time to start putting your sightings into eBird,
but it's especially convenient to start right now, because it is
arguably the best way to keep track of your yard, site, county, and
state year lists for 2012, and much more. Check it out!
