> First of all, a very handsome and cooperative Black-throated Gray Warbler is being seen in Holmes County. The bird is on private property, but birders are invited to come and see the bird. It goes without saying that we need to be mindful of giving the bird room and respecting the property. The address to access the site is 3864 Township Hwy 366, near Berlin, Oh. There is an open gate that leads up a pretty rough road to the site. I would expect that road to be VERY MUDDY tomorrow and Sunday as temperatures increase, so you may want to park at the bottom and walk up to the pond where the bird is being seen. There is no address on the gate or at the road, so you’ll need to look carefully to find it.

> I birded some areas around Wayne County after seeing the BTYW this morning and there is a lot of flooding in the areas around Killbuck Marsh and Funk Bottoms. Most of the ducks appear to be ducks that have been around for over a week during our cold snap. I relocated a Eurasian Wigeon originally found by Atlee Yoder last Friday today along the west end of Wilderness Road. The bird was on the north side of the road about 1/8 mile east of the small bridge. Wilderness Rd, along with other roads that cross the ditch in Funk are flooded and impassable, so you need to navigate around the flooded areas. I did not relocate the Cinnamon Teal, but there was good diversity of ducks and ample habitat, so it’s possible that this bird is still around somewhere.

> In Stark County earlier this week, Shari Jackson saw a Little Gull near Walborn Reservoir. The bird was relocated the next day, but has not been seen since. This is also true of the 2 Cattle Egrets seen near the same spot earlier this week. It’s very much possible that these birds are still around and just have not been relocated. Ducks, again, seem to be sticking to their lakes and reservoirs right now. Checking Lake Cable several times over the past week has produced essentially the same ducks each time, with Buffledheads, Ruddy Ducks, RB Mergansers, Horned Grebes, and Common Loons being present.

It’s hard to imagine those long legs being good at swimming, but this is certainly not unheard of with Avocets. He also reported 2 Common Terns along with some Caspian Terns. Virginia Rails and Sora are being heard at multiple locations, so keep an eye, or more likely an ear, out for them in your local marshes.
