So I have a little bone pick. I live in the Dayton area and recently we've had gull explosion. So yesterday I decided to dedicate 4 hours to finding the Thayer's gull that's been reported with no luck. Which is how it goes sometimes but I did come up on an Iceland gull which isn't a bad trade off. So very shortly after seeing the bird I put it on listserv and Facebook so if others were in the area they'd have a chance at seeing the bird. So when I woke up this morning I got a ebird alert that a few people had seen the Thayer's gull not but a handful of mins from where I had been all morning. Would be a life bird for me a many others in the area. So here's my bone to pick and I'm just usins my case and my county as an example as I'm sure this happens else where. There's a few birders including myself that post good sightings on listserv and Facebook and call and text people so they have the chance to see the bird if they want whether you live in the county or outside of it. So if your using any of these sources please give back when possible. If you find something good yourself or if you re reporting a sighting so others can have the chance to come. It just seems like there's quite a few people who use and don't give back. And I understand that not everybody has a cell phone or tablet or laptop but most of us who use these social media outlets to keep up on great birds have access. And it only takes a couple minutes to keep people up to date. As I and many others do. Sorry if anyone takes offense to this that was not my intention.
Keep reporting those good birds and as my brother would say..Bird On!!!!
