In a quick swing through Maumee Bay State Park, Lucas Co., today (Friday 17
Nov.) I saw one Greater White-fronted Goose with the Canada Goose flock near
the swimming beach. There have been one or two here for the last couple of
weeks. No sign of the Cackling Goose today but it still could be in the
area.

Large numbers of ducks were offshore in Lake Erie from the state park and
from Bayshore Road but they were VERY far out -- even through a scope at 60x
I could barely make out that a lot of them were scaup (sp.) and mergansers
(Red-breasted and sp.). A little farther west, at the warm-water outflow
from the Bayshore Power Plant, all the gulls I saw were of the four expected
species. The warm water is supporting its own little gaggle of half-hardy
birds -- six Black-crowned Night-Herons and at least eight Great Egrets.
American Tree Sparrows have moved into the area in big numbers during the
last two weeks, and I had a noteworthy flock of at least 200 Snow Buntings
in fields near the turnoff from Rt. 2 to Metzger Marsh.
