Denison was slow at first today but I decided to go by the ponds again before I gave up & was rewarded with my first fall Mourning Warbler that skulked around then suddenly it flew across the trail to land in a spot of sun right beside me—incredible naked eye looks before it dove into deeper cover! I always forget how tiny warblers are when you see them close w/o binoculars—bright 1st winter bird.
There may have been 2 Mournings–the skulking one seemed to show a hint of a hood & a v pale bib but it was going in & out of thick leaves so it was tough to see the whole bird whereas the one I saw close did not seem to have those features. The skulker was in shade vs the other in sun so who knows?
Then I saw a big white eye ring and dark bluish gray back, pale necklace! Yes, Canada! Other warblers: Redstart (yellow), Maggie, Blackburnian plus Com YT incl some juvs. One Blue-headed Vireo in with a group of Red-eyed plus White-eyed (some juvs as well as ads).
