This AM Frank Frick and I checked the Caesar Creek beach and the pond near the observation platform. There were only Ring-billed Gulls on the beach but several were juvenile and one which puzzled me had really black legs. It is a great spot for an intensive study of the differences in the Ring-bill population. The only other item of interest was a Kingfisher that flew over the water.

The pond had four Solitary Sandpipers (possibly five since they moved around so much the exact count was difficult), six Killdeer and several Mallards. The water level is rather low and there is a good bit of mud available for any shorebirds that may want to stop and feed. While there we heard two Red-shouldered Hawks calling and a Common Yellowthroat. We did not hear or see the Sedge Wrens which were reported earlier.

Great Weather Cheers, Larry Gara, Wilmington
