At Lorain "hot waters" (cold lo these many years now), the only ice cover is in the boat launch inlets.  Gulls and geese were far away on the water and the western shore of the bay.  I found one Glaucous Gull; the rest appeared to be herring and ring-billed with a very few great black-backed.  The distance to them and the west wind in my face took away any desire to scan the crowd a third time.

At the Avon Lake power plant the water was open but for some streaks of slush ice, on which a few gulls were riding.  Only a couple of hundred gulls total (herring and ring-billed and five Bufflehead in close to shore.
