Interesting postings on eBird got me out to another new spot in the county,
the Geauga Commons which I checked out a couple of times this week.

I must have driven by it dozens of times and dismissed it as a recreational
park with it's many ball fields. But, if you drive to the back parking lot and
walk to the river, there is a nice long walk along the river bank.

I missed the mourning warbler seen earlier in the week, and in fact warbler
activity this early morning was minimal. Only a lone tennessee today, and not even
any calls or songs to chase after.

But there were cuckoos. I heard at least three yellow billed cuckoos, and saw
one fly to join another in a tree across the river. Further upstream I heard two
black billed cuckoos. I've just been reviewing their calls on Macauley Library
of Sounds and am pretty sure I've got these right.

Also interesting, was one pair of warbling vireos that were involved in some type of courtship
display.

Abundant male rose breasted grosbeaks and b. orioles singing.

One surprise, a grey cheeked thrush, a bird I miss many seasons. I always need a
very clear view to be certain. Absence of field marks, (the eye ring in this case) is
a lot harder to feel comfortable with than the presence of field marks.
