No Longspurs. In fact no Larks! I was exploring around the old gravel pit
hotspot. Love that spot! Had Snow Geese in flight. Finally, snow geese
after all the Ross's in SW Ohio this winter. Common Mergs, Coots,
Goldeneyes, Wigeon, Mallards, etc. around there. Still spots of open
water there.
Some ebird guru might be able to answer this question - is there less
Longspurs in SW Ohio - or Ohio in general this winter? Did the majority
not make it this far south??
I was scanning those fields intently. No Bobwhite either. You never know!
They do breed in that area!
I started at Newtown Bottoms. Molly had hundreds of Horned Larks
there this morning! This is Hamilton county. I gave it a quick scan.
Had 50 - estimate. I wanted to see the area. Then off I went to
Highland.
Good birding all.
