Hello again Bob, I've been waiting patiently since requesting (right after
you first posted your confession) one of your "great" pics of the Ruff that
you shot that has caused all the controversy, but to date I have not
received anything from you? From your posted email: "I'd be glad to share my
photos of the Ruff if anyone is interested." I AM still interested and
would love it if you would share your best photos as you stated you would
do. If however, you were just bluffing or BS'ing, I understand---seems to be
lots of that going on these days. Thank you kindly, Dane Adams.

Yea that was me in the kayak yesterday. When I go out birding and photograph
them I always respect the birds as well as other birders. I was not chasing
the Ruff down the mud flat. Just simply drifting by the mud flat. Since the
breeze caused a quick drift I had to go around a couple of times to get the
pictures I really wanted. Got some great pics. Didn't scare one bird. Not
one. Not even the Ruff. Now the Falcon spooked them one time. In fact I was
at one spot that same morning just sitting in the kayak and had about a
dozen shore birds just a couple feet from me just feeding away. In fact,
they came towards me like I wasn't even there. Maybe I should have moved to
give them space? I did see a lot of garbage around the water's edge and in
the water but no garbage in respect to birding. In regards to being selfish,
I'd be glad to share my photos of the Ruff if anyone is interested.

Get yourself a kayak or small boat. You can do some great birding. I highly
recommend it.

Regards,

Bob
A Respectful Birder.

Everyone was especially nice and on great behavior as I viewed the Ruff
this morning. Still there by the way when I left at noon. Thanks for finding
and sharing.

No we would not. We don't even behave that well when its an expected rare
bird that we see every year. So a "First" record I have no faith that we
would all "Behave". Perfect example was yesterday when I got to Hoover to
check the ruff out I was informed by other birders who there earlier that
there was one of our fellow birders out in the water with his trusty kayak
chasing the ruff up and down the mud flat trying to get closer and closer
with his gigantic camera. Im sure we all have stories like this. I
understand you want to add that perfect pic to your collection. But at the
cost of possibly scarring the bird away and taking away from someone else's
enjoyment who traveled just as far or farther than you. That's just garbage
and its selfish. Maybe we should look long and hard and take note of the
space they gave the flycatcher. It sure looks like they all got great pics
and looks at the bird. I know there are tons of respectful birders and
photographers out there that follow the unwritten rule of " give the bird
space" but there are always that one or two individuals that want to get
closer. Step away from the bird!
Bird On!!!
