At least 2 of the Swainson's Hawks were still in the area this morning,
about 11AM. They had moved somewhat, but were still visible from US23. The
first was seen about 1/4 mile east of the Central Ave. exit. He was just
sitting there, on a branch, facing east, watching the cars whiz by. I was
probably aboit 150 feet away.
The second sighting was in Michigan. He was about 100 yards south of exit 3,
gliding, like he had spotted something good to eat & only about 50 feet away
from me. Most of the area between Exit 1 & Exit 3 is one big field, with
some young trees around the edges. That's probably as close as he'll find
around here to his western habitat.
I also saw 2 other similarly sized and shaped hawks too far away to
identify, but still visible from US23.
Sunday AM, should be your best shot. At least, the traffic will be less.
