March 31, 2001
Disturbance
University of Maryland
College Park, MD

Following the university's loss to Duke in the NCAA, students broke into
houses and stole furniture to use as fuel for bonfires.  Fire fighters were
chased off by the students when they attempted to extinguish the fires.

April 1, 2001
Residence Hall Fire
Plymouth State College
Plymouth, NH

A fire in a residence hall forced 100 students out of the building.  Two
apartments were seriously damaged by the fire, with additional water and
smoke damage in the building.  A sprinkler system is scheduled to be
installed this summer.

This is the second fire to occur at a Plymouth State College residence hall
within two months.

April 2, 2001

University of Arizona
Tucson, AZ

University of Arizona fans turned over cars and set them on fire following
the Wildcat's loss in the NCAA.  Stores were looted, and police in riot gear
had to fire tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

April 3, 2001
PA State Budget
Harrisburg, PA

Governor Tom Ridge's proposed budget, which contains a provision to provide
$3 million to help fund the installation of sprinklers in the state's
residence halls, passed through the Senate with little opposition.
