The U.S. Fire Administration has recently completed a program titled: "Get
Out and Stay Alive". This video program discusses fire safety for the
college student. It talks about a few of the fire fatalities involving
colleges and universities. The Fire which killed  5 students at the
Phi-Gamma-Delta Fraternity House, Graduation Day 1996 at UNC - Chappel Hill
is one of the fires discussed. You hear from fire safety officials,
friends, fellow students and parents about the loss.  The level of
association with this video is very much on the same level of today's
college students.  This program discusses what needs to be done to prepare
for parties and how to make sure everyone is safe afterwards. Parties will
always be part of the college atmosphere. This tape does not lecture on
what the students should and should not do when having a party, but more if
you are going to do it (drink and smoke), then here are the steps to doing
it safely.

It also discusses fire safety in residence halls and off campus housing as
well, not just fraternity and sorority houses.

The tape lasts 16 minutes.

I am currently reviewing and commenting on this material for the U. S. Fire
Administration.  Here at Miami a small percentage of the students in
fraternities and residence halls are also reviewing the tape for comment.

The USFA had only have a few videos that were sent out to be reviewed.
Others will be available at No Charge (that's what they are telling me).
Once they have received enough feedback from those who are evaluating them
and the time it takes to get additional ones made up, the videos should be
available in about 6-8 weeks.

available. The site does not discuss the program yet because they are still
in the evaluation phase)

Lastly,  I would like to start a discussion thread on public education for
students. Maimi has agreed that all incoming first year students will be
presented a fire safety education program. I have some ideas on how make
this time fun and more then just a lecture.
