We just had a fairly major fire in a sorority house back in November- The
cause was determined to be a power strip. It too had several appliances
plugged into it.

Subject: Power Strips

In response to the inquiry on power strips...A fire last year at Boston
College was determined to be electrical. There were three power strips
daisy-chained together, with 19 appliances plugged into them. In addition,
one of the power cords (for the computer, I believe) was bundled up behind a
stack of papers and books.

The appliances included computers, printers, stereo, refrigerator, etc.
