South Orange, New Jersey

Seton Hall University Settlement

Seton Hall has settled lawsuits with 12 people that sued the University
following the January 19, 2000 fire that killed three students.  The amount
of the settlement was not disclosed, nor did the university admit to any
liability.

College of the Ozarks
Point Lookout, Missouri

A construction warehouse and several vehicles were destroyed by a fire.  The
building is located in the middle of the campus.

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Legislation Introduced in Pennsylvania

State Representative McGeehan (D-Philadelphia) reintroduced his legislation
requiring the installation of sprinklers in residence halls and Greek
housing.  Similar legislation passed the state House of Representatives last
year, but was stalled in the Senate where no action was taken on it.  (More
information can be found in the January issue of Campus Firewatch.)

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Report Released

A report commissioned by the Pennsylvania State Senate outlining the level
of fire protection at the state's universities and colleges was released.
This report provided cost estimates for the installation of sprinklers in
these occupancies.  (More information can be found in the January issue of
Campus Firewatch.)
