David, Jens, Jon and Greg,

SUMMARY:

Would you be interested in joining, for free, a
voluntary organization of people who help researchers at
their institutions use computing to advance their research?

https://www.xsede.org/community-engagement/campus-champions/

DETAILS:

The Campus Champions are a group of 400+ people at 200+ US colleges
and universities (and other research-focused institutions), who
peer-mentor each other to learn to be more effective at helping
researchers (and other scholars) at their own institutions to use
computing, especially (but not exclusively) large scale and
high end computing.

We have a very active mailing list where Champions exchange ideas
and help each other solve problems, a monthly conference call
where we learn what's going on both within the Champions and at
the national level, and a variety of other activities, including
at national conferences.

* Benefits to Your Institution

-- You get better at helping people use computing to advance their
research, so your institution's research becomes more successful.

-- It doesn't cost them (or you) any money.

* Benefits to You

-- You become more valuable and more indispensible to your
researchers and therefore to your institution.

-- The Campus Champions are a lot of fun, so you'll enjoy learning
valuable strategies.

* Benefits to the Champions Program

-- The more Champions we have, and the more institutions, the more
everyone can learn from each other and all get better at helping
our own researchers.

Is this something you'd be interested in?

If so, I've attached a template letter of collaboration that
you can use to join up.

Here's the most popular mailing list discussion topics of 2017:

* compilers = cost / compute efficient computing?
* Xeon Phi's cheap!
* Data Management Initiatives on YOUR Campus - TGR/TGW?
* Ideas for debugging Fortran issue
* TRAINING: Campus Champions 101 (aka New Champions Training ...)
