I can not imagine a more unique and challenging context in which to
develop knowledge and skills as a school psychologist than the
APA-accredited Louisiana School Psychology Internship Consortium
(LAS*PIC). The application deadline is rapidly approaching for LAS*PIC, a
consortium of urban, suburban, and rural school systems in the
metropolitan area of New Orleans. Perhaps surprising to you, LAS*PIC has
actually expanded the number of internship settings since Katrina and the
failure of the Federal levees. School psychology interns will now have
practice settings that include implementation of school-wide reform,
universal screening, early intervening services, and differing systems for
making decisions about response to intervention. Projects authored or
supported by such notables as Wayne Sailor, Joe Witt, and others lend a
genuine sense of promise for school improvement and
implementation of effective practices.

LAS*PIC, coordinated by George Hebert, is projected for as many as ten
school psychology interns and the first year for its post-doctoral program
in school psychology. LAS*PIC now has almost 150 alumni in its 15 year
history as an authentic school psychology experience. Nowhere else in
this country can a school psychology intern experience the variety of
contexts, the unique past history, and wide-spread sense of hope for truly
better results than the New Orleans metropolitan area. Because I am
directly involved in the Louisiana Recovery District's operation of
schools in New Orleans, I see this unique context every week and how
school psychology has a truly important opportunity to make contributions.

I hope that you will encourage qualified students to apply to LAS*PIC
(http://www.hdc.lsuhsc.edu/New%20Site%20Location/SA/LASPIC/laspic.htm) and
contact George Hebert ([log in to unmask]). Through your student's
experience in LAS*PIC you will get your own lens for one of the most
unique and important social processes - the recovery of an American city
and its metropolitan area. Send us your best applicants.
