Two Black Studies Faculty Positions

CHAIR, The Department of Black Studies at University of
Nebraska at Omaha seeks a senior scholar to serve as Chair
beginning August 2008. This is a tenure track appointment,
Ph.D. or equivalent is required. The candidate must have a
proven record of administrative competence, academic research,
publication, and a working knowledge of Black/Africana/African
American Studies as a discipline. The successful candidate
will be responsible for the development of new curriculum
within Black/African Studies and interdisciplinary contexts
with other departments, community outreach, and external
program/conference funding acquisition. Collegiality and
consensus building skills are desired. Competitive salary and

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, Department of Black Studies, University
of Nebraska at Omaha. Tenure track position available August
2008. PhD or ABD by time of appointment. Candidates will be
expected to teach core African American studies courses,
develop lecture courses and seminars in areas of expertise,
and contribute to the promotion and development of the degree
program. We are particularly interested in candidates with
specific research interests in Africana studies, history,
political science, urban economics, gender and sexual
orientation studies, or combinations thereof. Competitive
salary and benefits. Successful candidates will have the
capacity to teach both within their discipline and apply its
principles in an interdisciplinary fashion to teach the
Africana experience. The successful candidate will teach three
courses each semester, develop new courses, and maintain
involvement in academic research, publication, and community
