Michigan State University seeks applicants for the *Director of the

African Studies Center* to provide leadership in shaping and

implementing innovative international strategic directions. The director

is responsible for providing intellectual, organizational, and

programmatic leadership to advance and promote excellence in MSU?s

diverse research, teaching, outreach, and service activities relating to

Africa and to develop and sustain strategic partnerships in the region.

The director is engaged in policy development, implementation, budgeting

and securing external funds for the center, located within International

Studies & Programs.



The */African Studies Center, /*a*/ /*Title VI National Resource Center,

works closely with 170 faculty campus wide who are specialized on

Africa, two full-time Africana librarians, and a language faculty

regularly offering 9-12 African languages.  More information can be

Candidates are expected to have an outstanding record of research and

scholarship with experience working in and teaching about Africa.

Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or its equivalent and meet the

standards for appointment to the rank of associate or full professor

(with tenure) in an academic department or school in one of MSU?s

academic colleges. The ideal candidate should possess proficiency in an

African language and/or French, Portuguese, or Spanish. The director is

appointed at least 50% and no more than 75% in the center. The remainder

of the appointment is in an academic tenure home department.

Appointments are on a 12-month basis for five years (renewal possible);

salary and rank are commensurate with experience. For more information,
