Journal-News, The Cincinnati Enquirer, WAKW, WMUB, WGRR, Wednesday, July 21
A Butler County jury Tuesday aquitted six current and former Miami students
of disorderly conduct charges stemming from a Nov. 11 protest.
Journal-News quotes defendants Brad Allen, Kevin Mahoney, Jerry Greene and
Chentae Pennyman.

The Boston Herald, Friday, July 16
Story about the entrepreneurial spirit being alive at Boston colleges says
more than 750 colleges and universities are now offering courses in
entrepreneurship, with no fewer than 70 offering full programs of study in
the art of creating wealth and jobs. Quotes Michael Morris (chair, Thomas
C. Page Center for Entrepreneurship) and Jennifer Bailey (external
relations, School of Business Administration).

Apple Web site, Tuesday, July 20
Communication gaps that challenge collaboration between grandparents,
parents, and children also occur when dealing with different computing
generations. Miami University's School of Education and Allied Professions
had its own generation gap to deal with--eight generations of technology.
Their answer to the multigenerational technology challenges was nearly 100
new computers on faculty and staff desktops. Quotes Bruce Perry (associate
dean, EAP).

The Cincinnati Post and The Middletown Journal, Tuesday, July 20
Jury selection has been completed for the trial of seven people arrested
during protests at Miami University last year. During jury selection,
about 10 people demonstrated in front of the Oxford Courthouse. The Post
quotes Miami graduate student Carol Tyson, one of the demonstration's
organizers, and the Journal quotes graduate student Pegeen Reichert Powell.

The Columbus Dispatch, Saturday, July 17
Opinion piece by Melanie Ziegler (Spanish and Portuguese) responding to a
Dispatch editorial writer's expose on Cuba says it's important to compare
Cuba with the rest of Latin America with regard to quality of life, freedom
and repression in order to form a balanced perspective. Ziegler also says
that Cuban people regard Fidel Castro as the father (however flawed the
United States may believe him to be) of their national identity.

Dayton Daily News, Friday, July 16
Restaurant review of the Governors Room Restaurant, owned by Steve and
Missy (alumna) Friede and located at Alexander House, says it is worth the
drive to Oxford. The food was consistently well prepared, imaginative but
not too far ahead of the appetites of a Midwest college town.

Times Bulletin, Monday, July 5
Divorcing parents who attended a parent education seminar reported better
parent-child relationships than those who were not offered such classes, an
Ohio State University study has found. Patrick McKenry, Ohio State
University professor, conducted the study with doctoral student Kathleen
Clark and Glenn Stone (family study and social work).

Columbus Dispatch, Tuesday, July 6
Column by University of Akron president Luis Proenza says many states that
were previously noncompetitive economically have surged ahead of Ohio.
Many of these states also built research-and-development capacity of
exceptional quality within their universities, and, by comparison, Ohio and
other Midwest states have lagged in inovation and lost market share in
research and development. In the most recent U.S. News and World Report
rankings none of Ohio's public universities were among the top 25 percent
of the national universities, and only three, Miami University, Ohio State
University and Ohio University, were in the top half.
