The 12th District Court of Appeals this week affirmed a Butler County
Common Pleas Court ruling that Miami University's hiring policies
discriminated against the mentally retarded.

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Thursday, April 8
The Miami University Red Brick Run 5K race will be held April 18.
And:
Miami University Steel Band will present a spring concert Friday at Hall
Auditorium.
And:
Smith, Stevens & Young, Inc., an architecture and engineering firm,  will
establish a $1000 per year scholarship for a 1999 graduate of a Hamilton or
Butler County High School.  The student would intend to major in
architecture, structural engineering or civil (nonenvironmental)
engineering at UC, Miami, OU or Ohio State.
And:
The Butler County Job Fair will be held at Towne Mall and Miami University
Hamilton.

A memorial on Miami University's campus to three civil rights activists is
now guaranteed.

Miami University plans to build an on-campus memorial to three slain civil
rights workers trained in Oxford.

American Israelite, Thursday, March 4
Miami University student Jeff Weisbrot can take credit for successfully
lobbying to add modern Hebrew as a foreign language option at the school,
say university officials.

Community Press-Mason, Wednesday, March 17
Tech Ready programs at Mason High School offer participating students a
real advantage in that they will be prepared for either the world of work,
or advanced standing in local colleges with whom the school is developing
partnerships.  Some of the partnerships include Cincinnati State Technical
College and the regional campuses of Miami University.

Canton Repository and News Herald, Tuesday, March 16
The state Controlling Board approved millions of dollars in requests from
Ohio agencies.  Some examples include approving $450,000 for the Gaskill
Student Technology Commons project at Miami University.

Western Star, Wednesday, March 17
Storm chaser Dr. Charles Doswell III will present a lecture at Miami
Middletown.
And:
The Summer Honors Institutes for Gifted Students will be held again this
summer at universities and colleges throughout Ohio.  Some of the courses
offered at Miami University are Discovering Yourself Through the Arts
(Chamber Music Institute, Interactive Theater Workshop, Design Exploration
in Art and Gospel Choir Workshop).
