Miami University honored alumnus Gen. Joseph Ralston, vice chairman of the
Joint  Chiefs of Staff, with an honorary degree Friday night.  Ralston was
on campus to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of Miami University ROTC.
Quotes Ralston.

"Everybody has a Story" section features Nancy and Jim Sturgeon, who were
named this year's Parents of the Year by Miami University.  Includes a
photo of the Sturgeons.

Sen. Mike DeWine will deliver the W.A. Hammond Lecture on The American
Tradition 7 p.m. Thursday at Miami University.

Arts column mentions a recital by soprano Audrey Luna, Robert Thomas being

What started in 1996 as six friends planning a vacation to Lake Tahoe
became 270 acquaintances from all over the world meeting to celebrate a
common connection: The television western "Bonanza."  After Carla Ledford
(administrative secretary, Hamilton campus) and five other members of an
amateur Internet writers group found out the dates they had selected
coincided with the 40-year anniversary of the debut of the show, their
theme was established.  As they planned their trip, word spread quickly and

Dayton Daily News, Monday, Nov. 8
A lawsuit by a student who objected to the use of his student fees to
support liberal campus groups at the University of Wisconsin could change
the way fees are spent on college campuses nationwide.  The U.S. Supreme
Court, which is to hear the case Tuesday, will decide whether public
universities can use mandatory student activity fees to subsidize campus
groups that pursue political goals.
And:
About 150 Lehigh University students protested the school's program to curb
binge drinking, saying the policy hurts campus spirit and has prompted some
students to abuse drugs.
