Article about Title IX says the Board of Trustees at Miami University
delayed for two months a decision on whether to drop men's golf, tennis,
soccer and wrestling, moves that it is considering for financial as well as
gender-equity reasons.  Quotes Miami president James Garland and Joel
Maturi (athletic director).

The Cincinnati Post, Monday, Feb. 15
In YMCAs and universities, in country clubs and in community pools, men and
women are members of masters swimming teams.  The term "masters" refers to
age (19 and over), not necessarily skill level.  A list of places to call
if you're interested in joining a masters swim team includes the Miami
Sports Center at Miami University.

Dr. A. Gene Smiley is so intrigued by the growing number of centenarians
that he  heads a search committee to find, identify, and interview local
centenarians throughout this year.  Smiley has enlisted the help of
graduate students in the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University to
help find these people and later professionally photograph them.

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Tuesday, Feb. 16
The city of Oxford, home of Miami University, will start surveying its
architecture next month.  The project, "The Future for Oxford's Past:
Oxford's Internet-Based Historic Information System," will preserve
cultural and architectural history with a database available on the
Internet.  The neighborhood to be studied includes the original Miami
University, founded in 1809.

Journal-News, Tuesday, Feb. 16
Photo of a New Miami Elementary School student being congratulated for
being the top reader in her school district in the county-wide Championship
Reading Program.  The program, sponsored by Champion International,
Coca-Cola, Miami University and the Journal-News, encouraged children to
read as many books as possible from October through December.
