Dayton Daily News, Friday, Feb. 11
Caroline Everington, an expert in developmental education at Miami,
testified during a hearing Thursday to seek a new trial for death row
inmate Davel Chinn.  Testimony by teen-age co-defendant, Marvin Washington,
put Chinn on death row in 1989, but no one involved in the murder case
realized then that the boy was moderately retarded because of a deformity
at birth, according to testimony at the hearing.

"Everybody has a story" section features Eugenia Mills (chair, nursing),
and says throughout her 29 years in the nursing department at Miami
University, Mills has seen many changes in health care, but one thing
remains the same--the dedication of the nurses the program turns out.

Letter to the editor from Debra Mooney (Wellness Programs Coordinator,
Xavier University) says national smoking rates among college students are
increasing for the first time in almost four years and, to try and avoid
this pattern locally, the Ohio Department of Health recently awarded a
major grant to the Intercollegiate Tobacco Risk Reduction Coalition of
Southwest Ohio.  The coalition, comprised of wellness professionals from
Miami, UC and Xavier, will use the funds for prevention, intervention and
advocacy efforts.

With soaring tuition increases, average student indebtedness almost doubled
between 1995 and 1997, forcing many to drop out because they feared they
would never be able to pay off their debts, a Senate panel was told
