The Indianapolis Star, Thursday, Nov. 18
For the past few years, in-state colleges and universities have used
billboards for recruiting but Miami University is unusual, if not unique
because it's branched beyond Ohio's borders to attract students from
Indianapolis.  Since mid-October, the university has rented 10 billboards
there as part of what Holly Wissing (news and public information) describes
as "a broad effort to recruit multicultural students."

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Wednesday, Nov. 24
Gov. Bob Taft asked the Ohio Board of Regents to come up with an annual
report card for Ohio colleges and universities listing graduation, transfer
and retention rates and including students' average time spent and credits
earned to get their diplomas.  Quotes Holly Wissing (news and public
information).

The Cincinnati Post, Tuesday, Nov. 23
The last of a three-part series about the demanding role of a caregiver

The Armenian Reporter Int'l, Saturday, Nov. 20
Miami University political scientists will get not only a firsthand look at
the changes occurring in Armenia but an opportunity to collaborate with key
Armenian opinion leaders, thanks to a $284,437 grant from the U.S.
Information Agency to Doug Shumavon (political science).  Quotes Shumavon.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Thursday, Nov. 18
In the latest round of the largest takeover battle in pharmaceutical
industry history, Pfizer Inc. is asking the shareholders of Warner-Lambert
Co. to fire their board of directors.  Quotes merger expert James Brock
(economics).

San Antonio Express-News, The Times Union, USA Today and The Washington
Post, Friday, Nov. 19
Stories about male athletes from Miami's tennis, soccer and wrestling teams
suing the university because their teams were cut.

Journal-News, Wednesday, Nov. 24
Jim Blount's history column says the contributions of men from Miami
University to the Union cause in the Civil War were so numerous and notable
that they defy brief description, but there were also some Miami men who
joined the Confederacy.

The Columbus Dispatch, Thursday, Nov. 18
Male athletes are expected to file a lawsuit against Miami University,
charging the university with sex discrimination in violation of Title IX
and the U.S. Constitution because it eliminated men's wrestling, soccer and
tennis teams.

The Middletown Journal, Sunday, Nov. 21
Rod Nimtz (assistant executive director, Middletown campus) is one of seven
people who will serve on a steering committee for a Middletown Community
Foundation-led "vision" project.

Dayton Daily News, Wednesday, Nov. 24
"Seen & Overheard" column says the December issue of "Esquire" features 100
men from the last 100 years and asks their greatest achievement.  The man
representing 1977 is Wally Szczerbiak (alumnus), who says his greatest
achievement is "Being drafted number six to play in the NBA for Minnesota."
