Men's soccer may be off the athletic roster at Miami University, but this
weekend's Kelme/Miami University Spring Soccer Classic is bigger than ever.
The tournament drew 260 teams from seven states, but the demise of men's
soccer at Miami has cast a shadow over the tournament's future. The
tournament began as an effort to raise money for the men's soccer program,
which had a limited budget and no scholarship endowments. Miami's decision
has left two other programs with uncertain futures: summer soccer camp and
the spring M League, designed to whet children's appetites for the game.
Quotes Nancy Abner (athletics) and soccer coach Bobby Kramig.
And:

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Monday, April 26
Letter to the editor from Matt McCumber of Mount Auburn says the story on
the April 17 front page regarding the elimination of three men's sports at
Miami University was misleading. The story "indicated none of the
scholarships would be cut of members on teams with sports eliminated and
that Miami wrestling had 39 kids on the team--implying that they all had
scholarships. The wrestling team at Miami only had four scholarships." He
also says, "The reality is that these cuts are being made to protect a
football program that has 88 scholarships, loses several million dollars
per year and has no business trying to compete at the Division I level."

Journal-News, Monday, April 26
Miami basketball player Wally Szczerbiak remains cautious about the NBA
