The Columbus Dispatch, Monday, February 15
Andrew Cayton (history) will be one of the co-editors of the Encyclopedia
of Midwestern History and Culture.  Cayton says, "We hope to reveal that
the Midwest is...a place of enormous diversity, rich cultural traditions
and customs and a great deal that's unique to this part of the world."

States News, Wednesday, Feb. 17
U.S. senators Mike DeWine and George Voinovich voted to remove President
Clinton from office for committing perjury and obstructing justice.
Political analysts differ on whether the impeachment saga will hurt
Republicans, but few believe DeWine's votes will damage him in 2000.

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Thursday, Feb. 18
Miami University's board of trustees has approved the $1.3 million purchase
of the former Oxford Kroger store.

MIami University's Hefner and Limper museums and the department of zoology
are sponsoring a bird safari to Lake Erie May 11-13.

The Middletown Journal, Wednesday, Feb. 17
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Miami University's
zoology department a $30,500 grant.

Dayton Daily News, Thursday, Feb. 18
Three completely different productions are poised to open on area college
and university stages.  Includes Miami University Theatre's production of
"Company."

The Middletown Journal, Wednesday, Feb.17
Miami University-Middletown will offer Kids in College on Saturdays through
March 20.

Elsewhere in education:

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Thursday, Feb. 18
A student died after falling and hitting his head in a residence hall at
Case Western Reserve University.  The student had returned to his residence
early Sunday morning after attending a campus party, but it wasn't clear
whether there was a connection between the party and the fall, which
occurred Sunday afternoon.

Dayton Daily News, Thursday, Feb. 18
Applications from prospective students are running nearly double last
year's rate at Central State University.
