Elsewhere in education:

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Friday, May 25
UC officials said it will cost a lot more for cost-of-living raises
during the next three-year faculty contract than the $17 million
estimate by the professors' union, and it would come at the expense
of students, other employees and programs. UC President Greg Hand
said using AAUP's figure, three 5.1 percent annual increases would
cost the university $19.8 million over three years plus $3.6 million
in benefits tied to pay raises and, since Ohio's subsidy won't rise
during the next two years, UC would cover the salary increase by
raising tuition 7.4 percent and 7.7 percent or cutting its annual
budget by 2.75 percent.
