The Diane Rehm Show, 10-12 noon
 
     (note: Diane Rehm is still recovering from a bout of laryngitis.

     10-11: Ariel Dorfman:  Writer Ariel Dorfman is an
     Argentinian-born Chilean citizen who currently lives in the
     United States.  his memoir, "Heading South, Looking North:
     (Farrar Strauss & Giroux) examines his life as an expatriate,
     caught between languages and cultures.
 
     11-12: George Mitchell/Open Phones:  Former senator George
     Mitchell, a chief participant in last week's Northern Irish peace
     agreement talks, will join the show at the top of the hour to
     talk about his role in the negotiations.  In the second half of
     the hour the phone lines will be open for listener comments on
     the peace settlement, or other topics of interest.
 
 
Fresh Air with Terry Gross, 12-1 p.m.
 
     Journalist, conservative pundit, and former Presidential
     candidate Patrick Buchanan.  His new book is "The Great Betrayal:
      How American Sovereignty and Social Justice Are Being Sacrificed
     to the Gods of the Global Economy"  (Little, Brown and Company).
     (THIS INTERVIEW CONTINUES INTO THE SECOND HALF OF THE SHOW).
 
 
 
Public Interest, 1-2 p.m.
 
     In an age when concepts of inclusion and multiculturalism are
     changing our approach to history, John Lukasc (LU-cas) mourns the
     decline of Anglo-American civilization and what he calls the
     ideal of the gentleman.  The historian will join Host Frank
     Stasio for a discussion about his new book which breaks from
     tradition in both form and content as it examines American and
     European history during most of the twentieth century.
 
     Guest: 1. John Lukacs, recently retired professor of history at
     Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia; author of 20 books,
     including "A Thread of Years"; recipient of numerous academic
     honors and awards.
 
     Talk of the Nation , 2-4 p.m.
 
     Join Ray Suarez for a conversation with "Public Citizen" founder
     Ralph Nader about his campaign to reinvigorate civil
     society...And in the second hour...A roundtable discussion with
     three directors at the Center for Disease Control....

and on today's All Things Considered, 4-7 p.m.
 
     Richard Harris reports on today's launch of Space Shuttle
     Columbia.  Going into orbit with the shuttle's astronauts will be
     fish, rats, insects, and, for the first time, American mice.  The
     creatures will be used in one of the many experiments scheduled
     during the two week mission.
