Jill, Jeanette, and I spent a couple hours yesterday morning conducting a
dress rehearsal of the Hueston Woods migratory bird banding station.  We
only put up about half the normal nets and only ran the nets about 2 hours,
but we did amazingly well!!! Our first birds caught were Fox Sparrows!  We
wound up banding 1 Fox Sparrow, 4 White-throated Sparrows, 7 Cardinals, and
a male Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
While there, we heard/saw BG Gnatcatchers, House Wrens, Barn Swallows,
Field Sparrows, Rough-wing Swallows, Brown Thrashers, along with the usual
Towhees, Cardinals, Golden-crowned Kinglets, etc.
On a separate note--the Surf Scoters and Red-throated Loon are still at
Brookville Lake-try the Mounds Beach area first then head to the dam.
