Last week I had posted my unusual for this time of year White-crowned
Sparrows. Today, I am in west/central Indiana and there are 8 of them
at feeders.
There are also a half dozen Savannah Sparrows here. This is where I grew
up, and I had not ever identified Savannah Sparrows before.
All of this is encouraging I think.
Adaptation may be at least one factor: this year, for the first time
ever, 2 other friends, where I am now, and also at my home feeders in
Ohio, have had Red-winged Blackbirds at feeders, for example.

> Dave Russell led a successful all-day trip on Saturday. Dave volunteered his expert guide services and the trip was sold at the Three Valley Trust Auction so it was doubly beneficial. Participants included Tom Klak and Jeanne Hey, Jeanne's brother Jodie, Jim and Sarah Michael, and Jill Russell. The itinerary was: VOA park; Caesar Creek Beach; Spring Valley; Shawnee Lookout; Miami Whitewater (forest, not wetlands). Dave had hoped for more gulls, terns and warblers, but the trip list was still impressive. The list is not broken out by location, but we can note locations for the following significant finds: Savannah and Henslow's Sparrows and Bobolinks (many) were at VOA; Blue Grosbeak was on an evergreen tree at the gravel pits on Roxana-Burlington Road, on the way to Spring Valley; all the Rails, as well as Blackburnian and Prothonotary Warblers and the Marsh Wren, were at Spring Valley; both Tanagers and Cerulean Warblers (many) were at Shawnee Lookout; Peregrine Falcon wa!
s at the Cinergy Plant near Shawnee.
