Hi All,

Dave, CONGRATS! on your find.

For others on the list,

It would be great if we can keep tabs on her for the Audubon Miami
Valley Christmas Bird Count (12/18/04). A quick glance at some
historical data for that count confirmed my suspicion that Northern
Saw-whet Owl has never been recorded for the CBC there so this would be
a very important record.

I don't know if another list subscriber can confirm this, but there is
usually a pre-dawn owl search for the Audubon Miami Valley CBC. Other
owls reported in years past have included Eastern Screech Owls,
Long-eared Owls, Short-eared Owls, Great Horned Owls, Barred Owls, &
Barn Owls (from 1940's). If someone else could provide information
about where & when to meet for the owl search that would be great.

Congrats again!

We did it! We were successful last night in banding our first
Saw-whet!!!
Because it is so late in the year, I'm guessing this second year female
is
overwintering in the cedars below the dam. She weighed 91.2 g with an
unflattened wing chord of 140 mm.
