MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND 2005
NATURALIST PROGRAMS

Friday May 27th
3PM Naturalists in the Campground-Campers keep an eye out for roving
naturalists.  Get a copy of our program schedule, ask questions, and meet a
wild friend.
5PM Cruising Acton Lake-Join the naturalists at the Marina for a pontoon
cruise.  Learn about the history of Hueston Woods and view some Acton Lake
wildlife.  Seats are limited.  Sign up begins at the Marina at 8 a.m. Friday
morning.
8PM Campfire-Come to the campfire ring in Class A campground near the Indian
Mound.  Mingle with fellow campers, share stories and ask questions.
9PM Night Hike-Explore a trail under the cover of darkness.  Meet at the
Indian Mound Trailhead after the campfire for a night time adventure.
Insect repellent and proper footwear strongly suggested.


Saturday May 28th
8:30 Birds and Blooms-Join a naturalist as we search for jewels in the trees
and on the forest floor on the Equisetum trail.  Class B campers, meet at
the trailhead by the bridge.  All others meet at the Camp Store.
        11AM Wildlife Invasion at the Lodge-The naturalist will be in the Lodge’s
Front Lobby with a few wild friends.
        1PM Creekin-Meet at the Nature Center with old shoes, and prepare to get
wet!
2PM Tigers of the Sky-Join the naturalist at the Nature Center to meet our
birds of prey.  Learn about their natural history, role in the food chain,
and more.
        3PM Wildcat Chat-Meet at the Nature Center to learn about these powerful
predators at feeding time.
4PM Hooves and Hairs-Meet at the Nature Center for a trip to the deer pen.
Learn about their natural history, and get a chance to feed them a snack.
5PM “Reel” Fishing Fun-Meet the naturalist at the Marina to try your hand at
pulling up some of Acton Lake’s ample fish.  Bait and poles provided, but
come early because supplies are limited.
8PM Peaceful Sunset Paddle-Join the naturalist for an exploration of Acton
lake wildlife by canoe.  There is a $6+tax charge per canoe for this
program.  Meet at the Marina and come early, canoes are limited.


Sunday May 29th
9AM Discover Cedar Falls Trail-Meet the Naturalist at the back of the
Sycamore Grove Parking Lot near the entrance to the Cedar Falls trailhead.
Don’t miss a hike in this picturesque part of the park.
11AM Snake Tails-Come to the Nature Center for a close up look at Ohio’s
cold blooded finest.
1PM Fossil Expedition-Meet at the Fossil Collection Area by the dam and
bring a small bag for your treasures.
2PM Hawk Talk-Meet at the Nature Center to hear about these powerful and
agile essential members of the wild kingdom.
3PM EcoArt-Meet at Class A Campground’s Center Circle to make this week’s
nature craft.
7:30PM Owls of Ohio-Come to the Nature Center to learn about these winged
creatures of the night.
8:30PM Owl Prowl-Bring your stealthy selves to the Nature Center.  We will
then caravan to a trail and call these nocturnal hunters. Insect repellent
and proper footwear suggested.


Monday May 30th
10AM Big Woods Hike- Join the Naturalist at the Nature Center for a hike in
this special area of the park.  We may hike up to 3 miles, depending on the
enthusiasm of the group.  Hiking shoes and water bottle suggested.
1PM Predators and Prey-Come to the Nature Center to meet some of Ohio’s
native wildlife.  Learn hunting strategies of some of our raptors and cats,
followed by a short trip to the deer pen to see the other side of the story.

All children must be accompanied by an adult to attend programs.
 Notify the naturalist if special accommodations may be needed for your
participation.  All programs subject to change.
