Interview with Marcus Langford, vice president of Miami University's
chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, about the chapter being named the top Alpha Phi
Alpha chapter in Ohio at a recent statewide conference.

The Chronicle of Higher Education, Friday, Jan. 7
Story about membership in fraternities dropping because of hazing
incidents, alcohol abuse, and changing student values says several
institutions, such as Southwest Texas State University and Miami University
have developed accreditation programs for their Greek systems.

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Wednesday, Jan. 5
Story about UC professor Eric Cline's study of the biblical site Megiddo, a
25-acre mound in northern Israel, says on his most recent dig in 1998,
Cline and a group of students from UC, Xavier, and Miami universities set
out to uncover clues about the palace of Solomon, 10th century B.C. king of
Israel.  Instead they unearthed Solomon's stables.

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Thursday, Jan. 6
Story about TV Middletown quotes Rod Nimtz, assistant to the executive
director of the Miami Middletown campus and coordinator of the campus'
Artist and Lecture Series, and says he has arranged for TV Middletown to
videotape many performances at the campus.

Daily Reporter, Wednesday, Dec. 22
Story about many state universities now allowing students to receive their
grades electronically says last year was the first time students at Miami
University could receive their grades that way.  Quotes Lucille Hautau
(assistant registrar) about the advantages of offering grades
electronically.

Journal-News Thursday, Jan. 6
Feature on local band Holden ZoE (formerly Acoustica) says two members, new
keyboardist Dustin Bryant and drummer Mark Becknell are music students at
Miami.

Dayton Daily News, Thursday, Jan. 6
Feature on Krista Wyatt, Lebanon, Ohio's first full-time fire captain, says
she has a bachelor's degree in physical education and health from Miami.

Feature and photo of Jennifer Haller, 22, who graduated from Miami Dec. 17
with a political science degree and began working as assistant to the
municipal manager in New Lebanon three days later.  She will also serve as
secretary of the local Chamber of Commerce and head the village's economic
development unit.

Mercer County Chronicle, Thursday, Dec. 16
Christopher Davenport and Jeremy Grieshop, system analysis students at
Miami University, are making a mark in their field long before graduation.
The two placed second in the student division of a national software design
contest sponsored by Novell.

The Washington Post, Friday, Dec. 31
A list of a year's worth of wild stories compiled from wire stories
mentions that a music professor at Miami University sued officials,
alleging that they violated his First Amendment rights by refusing to let
him wear a thong swimsuit in the school pool.
