Thanks for the report, Catherine! I hate that I couldn't be there to
see them--I LOVE the Waxing Poetics. Actually, they opened the first
time I saw the Connells.

Anyone want to hear about the pre-Christmas 'Nells shows? Sure ya do.

Friday night was not too good--there were a bunch of people there by
the time I got there, so I didn't get my spot; there was a group of
women who came down front halfway during the show and starting being
silly--you know, dancing and waving their arms and chattering--which
just pissed me off no end; and the band was pretty bad, playing the
wrong chords and singing the wrong words and just generally screwing
up. The biggest highlight was the appearance onstage of John "Skip"
Connell, shaking his bon-bon like nobody's business!

Saturday night was MUCH better! I got my spot, band sounded great, no
"bimbo brigade"--all's right with the world. At one point, they were
discussing which of two new songs to do: "Bust" or "Put Down". They'd
done "Bust" on Friday night, so I yelled "Put Down!" Doug says "Well,
Dede wants "Put Down", so I guess that takes care of that!" (They did
end up playing "Bust" during the encore.) Highlights for Saturday
night: Adam Price from the Mayflies USA (who was teching for them that
night) singing backup on "Something to Say", Potak doing that
"Christmas Bells" song ("Hear all the bells, glad Christmas bells...";
you know the one), and the Echo & the Bunnymen song "Do It Clean"
(Doug: "This is a song by a very influential band from Liverpool.") as
an encore. Unfortunately, try as I might, I couldn't get "Skip"
onstage that night.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas, and just a reminder--the Mayflies
are playing at Local 506 in Chapel Hill on New Year's Eve. I'll be
there with bells!:)
