I took a brief visit to Hoover Reservoir yesterday to check out the lake for
anything interesting that might have blown in with the winds on Saturday. I
stopped at Oxbow and the boardwalk, and saw loads of cormorants and gulls. I
noted two large rafts of ducks way out in the middle of the reservoir - too
far away to ID for sure, but they were probably Ring-necked Ducks and Scaup.
I also had two Red-breasted Mergansers, 11 Horned Grebes, about 20 Great
Blue Herons (seem to be roosting in the woods east of the Osprey platform),
and two Common Loons. No Ancient Murrelets though - you have to go to the
Upper Peninsula for that one.
