On behalf of Audubon Ohio and our partners, The Black Swamp Bird
Observatory, Ohio's Division of Wildlife, Ohio's Bird Conservation
Initiative, 2nd Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas, Council of Ohio Audubon
Chapters, and Columbus Audubon, I would like to extend a big thank you
to everyone who attended the state Audubon Assembly.

It was a huge success, and your participation made it so. We had 200
people in attendance and received an overwhelming number of positive
comments from participants and presenters alike.

The event kicked off with field trips to both Killdeer Plains and the
Whittier Peninsula. Many of you have already read the highlights from
the Killdeer trip posted by Ethan Kistler and myself.

At dinner Friday evening Jerome Jackson delivered an excellent keynote
on the past, present, and future hopes of Ivory-billed Woodpeckers and
the science behind the conservation work. Pete Dunne commented on Dr.
Jackson's presentation as being "one of the most lucid talks on the
subject."

We had an amazing line-up of presenters throughout the day on Saturday
and Kenn Kaufman delivered a lunch keynote, sponsored by BSBO, which
many will not soon forget on taking birding to the next level, and what
that next level is about.

On Saturday evening Pete Dunne delivered the final keynote of the
evening on the 23 things that have changed and shaped the birding world.
One person told me that they had heard Pete speak on several other
occasions and that his presentation Saturday evening was one of the best
he had ever seen Pete give.

I hope that those of you who attended were able to reunite with old
friends, made some new friends, took away many memories, and gained some
new information that will enable you to go birding with a purpose. I
encourage you to take your experiences and what you learned through this
event and share them with friends, neighbors, Audubon Chapters, birding
clubs, and as many other people you can think of. Get out there and
apply what you learned as well.

Thank you again and we look forward to hosting you again in the future!

Casey
