Subject: RED-THROATED LOON

Today Rick Asamoto and I birded Caesar Creek and Buck Creek with a few really nice highliths. These were:

At the Caesar Creek Furnas boat ramp a Red-throated Loon which popped up very close then dove only to appear briefly then go out of sight. Rick got a photo and luckily Frank Frick came along to confirm the ID from the picture and then later to find it again next to a Common Loon.

At Buck Creek seventeen Sandhill Cranes flew overhead very high making the usual Crane Cackle. We did not see them land.

Other birds at Caesar Creek included several Ring-billed Gulls, one Bonaparte's Gull, one Bufflehead, several Common Loons, lots of Coots.

The ;lake at Buck Creek had several Common Loons, many Bonaparte's Gulls and a few Herring Gulls along with the Ring-billed
Gulls, several Horned Grebes, a small raft of Scaup and Green-winged Teal. At Old Reid Park there were a few American iWigeon and Gadwall along with one Mute Swan.

Gloomy Day Cheers, Larry Gara
