Greetings-----hats off to all of our OH and PA birders for their scrutiny of the many birdy locales in the state this month. Keep an eye out for eiders, gannet, alcids, etc. Who knows what else will show up? Here in the Lowellville area, sightings are more mundane lately. But it's nice to see wild turkeys, and a couple of kestrels have staked out wintering territories. Occasionally, chipping sparrow(s) visit my backyard feeders. Not much doubt this species is wintering farther north than just a decade ago. A final thought: look at the range maps for jaegers and ring-billed gulls. Those of us fortunate enough to have seen their interactions this fall are struck by the immediate and dramatic response from the ring-bills to a jaeger appearance. Yet, according to known distributions ringers shouldn't be encountering jaegers all that often. So as someone else has already wondered---just how many jaegers actually pass through the Great Lakes? Evidently, many more
than we are observing from shore. Later, Craig Holt, Lowellville
